Shy-El - Composer,
jazz musician (trumpet, piano) & physicist. |
| Born
Israel, 1963. Since his teenage years in Haifa, Shay-El played the
piano and the trumpet in jazz groups and youth orchestras. He studied
classical composition with late Israeli composer Harry Nadel, and
later, during his Master of Music studies at Boston University (1991-1993),
with American composers Charles Fussell and Lukas Foss. He composed
dozens of pieces for chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestras. His
works were performed in Boston and in Israel by ensembles such as
Musica-Nova Consort, and by leading musicians from the Israeli Philharmonic
Orchestra. At the same time he pursued an active career as a scientist
with publications in some of the major scientific journals, and received
his PhD degree in Meteorology from Tel Aviv University in 1999. At
the moment, Shay-El performs with several Israeli jazz groups in various
styles, including traditional jazz as well as original music. He recorded
four CD'sSummer ’97 (1998), a piano-guitar duet; Works (2000)
which included compositions for various classical ensembles written
between 1992-1995; Fragile Love (2000), a collection of jazz pieces
recorded live with various groups; and One Song One Dance (2002),
which included original pieces, with the Atmos Trio. |
